I'm an administrative assistant for the Clay Township Assessors Office in Hamilton county and I believe the purposed plan of eliminating the township offices is one of those ideas that looks good on paper but in reality it will be a disaster. Not only will many people loose their jobs it will be inconvenient to the public. Our office files 80% of all the deductions filed in the county. We've been told by many real estate agents, contractors, builders, and appraisers that they depend on us to get the information that they need to do their jobs. The taxpayers also like the fact that they don't have to drive 25 minutes to get to Noblesville to file their tax deductions that takes ten minutes to do. In conclusion I don't see how consolidating all the township offices into one office at the county level will save money or time on anyone's part.
Terry Michael, Field Appraiser in Fall Creek Twp., Hamilton Co. is the creator this blog. I regret that I failed to acknowledge and thank him for his work when the blog was put on line. Better late than never. Thank you, Terry.
I agree with Anonymous, only this should be put in every newspaper in Indiana for everyone to read. It was well written and exactly on target. This is nothing more than a power grab. Remember a few years back and the contract on America. Same thing here. The only people who would benefit from this are those with the most toys, like Mitch. I'd love to own a $2,000,000 home and only have to pay 1% tax on it, wouldn't you. We need to take names.
on Tuesday January 22nd, Senate Bill 16 will be heard on the Senate floor. It is now or never to contact your senators regarding this bill. If you get to Indy in the morning go to the statehouse and make your position known. Also, the House will start going over the 59 amendments to the Kernen/Shephard Bill 1001. Hope to see you there.
How many County Assessors do we have out there that are supportive of township assessors? There must be some that are smart enough to know that taking on all this work is not a good idea. They may be afraid to speak because it is their association that is pushing this but they need to step up and express themselves. Am I wrong?
Your complaints would be much more believable if someone there was literate enough to know that no apostrophe is required before the letter "s" when forming a plural. The word you seek is "Assessors". "Assessor's" is possessive.

We need to publish this in the Indy Star if nothing else it could go to the letters to the editor.
Go Township Assessors!

This is really great, and should be sent to all the senators and representatives. It seems that nobody is interested in the truth.
All of the township assessors should remain in office, but the trustee-assessors could be eliminated as a compromise.
It could be a disaster to consolidate in Marion County where a conversion is going on. Tax bills could be delayed for a long, long time

How much money was spent on the Gov. mansion that no one lives in?
